Users of Opengl and Linux avoid the chipsets ATI xpress200 and xpress1100. I am owner of a xpress1100 on a Acer laptop Aspires 5100, I had disappointment to note that this chipset does not manage or very little the Opengl, the consequences? Under Windows the plays or the applications calling upon Opengl for the 3D function very badly or not at all, and under Linux you do not have the 3D desktop nor the majority of the applications 3D . This existing problem with the xpress200 was to be fixed by the xpress1100 but these two chipsets use the Graphics Processor Unit X300se which is X300 cut down by ATI(half pipe, and band-width very reduced memory)which on paper is ½ to 1/3 slower than the X300 of origin but the other problem is that X300 in fact is already not an excellent Graphics Processor Unit, but actually the problem really does not come from the Graphics Processor Unit, the fact is that ATI officially does not support the opengl part of this chip. These chips at low prices equip each days more and more laptop and PC but ATI refuses to support them. Why? At this time no solution is thus offered if you use Linux or an Opengl applications or game under Windows do not buy machines equipped with these chipsets, because the answer which you will receive will be, you have for what you pay...
