A laptop is simply a computer that you can use by placing it on your lap and hence the name.

It is more expensive than a desktop computer as it has several advantages and benefits. Laptops have built in batteries and power to the laptop can be obtained from these batteries. An external AC adapter can also be used to supply power. This power also supplies charge for the battery for using in places where there are no power sockets. Laptop is highly portable and you can carry it wherever you want. The laptop will weigh somewhere around 5kgs. LCDs are used as displays inmost laptops. The keyboard and the touch pad are inbuilt and you need not attach any peripheral devices externally for using the laptop. However there are options available for attaching extra peripheral devices when the need arises. Simply, laptop is a mini desktop in size and more than a desktop in performance.
